North was in fine form as he helped Wayne Pivac’s Wales win the 2021 Guinness Six Nations title and a Triple Crown to boot.
A series of impressive performances in the outside centre position had left North firmly in the frame for this summer’s British & Irish Lions tour to South Africa.
Unfortunately, North suffered an anterior cruciate knee ligament injury playing for the Ospreys against Cardiff Blues in the Guinness PRO14 Rainbow Cup.
He has since had an operation to fix the problem, one North described on social media as having gone well.
The 29-year-old’s recovery period is now already underway.
George is in good spirits and he’ll attack this challenge head on. Hopefully he’ll come back stronger when he does get on the field
Ospreys attack coach Brock James said of North: “He’s been really good for us. The challenge of playing a different position at international level is one he took on with both hands.
“He’s done exceptionally well for Wales this year and whenever he’s come back to the Ospreys he’s been the same for us.
“It was a big year for him so it’s bitterly disappointing for him it’s had to end this way. George is in good spirits and he’ll attack this challenge head on.
“Hopefully he’ll come back stronger when he does get on the field.”
