The talented midfielder helped Wayne Pivac’s side to win the 2021 Guinness Six Nations while he has also played club rugby for both Dragons and Saracens this term.
Tompkins helped Saracens win the English Championship title and seal a place back in the Gallagher Premiership after a loan spell at Rodney Parade.
He starts for Wales against Argentina on Saturday looking for a series win which would add to his already-impressive list of achievements.
“I’d be happy with that,” Tompkins said.
“Any bright spark is nice, especially with what’s going on with Covid. I’d take it.
“Argentina are a good side and have got a full-strength team. You have to remember that, but we came off frustrated after the first game.
“It’s building for this last game now and there is a lot more we want to give.
“Thank God we’ve got one more game.”
Wales drew 20-20 with 14-man Argentina in their first game of a two-match series.
For the rematch, Wales head coach Pivac has made seven changes to his side with Tommy Rogers, Tompkins, Jarrod Evans, Tomos Williams, Gareth Thomas, Leon Brown and Josh Turnbull all coming into the starting team.
“You think with 14 men that you should dominate and there should be holes and opportunities,” said Tompkins as he looked back on last weekend’s Pumas clash.
“We look back at that and think we squandered a lot of good opportunities. We’ve looked at it heavily over the last couple of days and have picked out what we need to work better at.
“We need to up our kicking game from what it was, put pressure on them, and diffuse the pressure they’re going to bring.
“They got to our wingers quite a lot off kicks so we need to improve on that.
“In terms of attack there are areas where we need to exploit their defence better. We all need to step up and those are the two specific areas.
“We need to go in with a bit of a ruthless mindset and step up.”
