Toby Booth’s side travel to the Alpas Arena with a wider squad on Saturday afternoon to face Hartpury in a friendly match in preparation for the upcoming 21/22 season.
The action will kick off at 2pm.
“We want to see what we’ve got and where we can take the players,” Pugh said.
“The boys look after themselves in their down periods and don’t start from square one. Programmes are put in place when they are away from here.
“Compared to where we were last year, we’re steps ahead. We’re getting boys who are new to the programme up to speed whereas last year everyone was new to it.
“We’re able to go ahead a bit further and the boys who have come in have added a great amount of energy. They’ve really fitted in, it’s exciting, and the squad is looking good.”
The Ospreys are without most of their players who featured for Wales this summer for the trip to Hartpury.
But in the forwards, internationals Rhodri Jones, Sam Parry and Sam Cross are all involved.
In the backs, Rhys Webb will play while there is also a place for new signing and Welsh-qualified back Michael Collins.
