While the young Italians were celebrating a record third win in a championships season, having earlier beaten England and Scotland, Mann’s men were left to reflect on another yellow card – their third of the tournament to go with one red.
“It is very disappointing. We always go into a game wanting to win and we will take a lot of learnings from this defeat,” said Wales U20 skipper.
“That sums up our tournament, but when we stick to our structure we can take teams apart. We will have to look at our discipline because that’s what kills us.
“If you want to play at the top level you can’t give away stupid penalties. Now we are looking forward to a summer tour and winning as many games as we can wherever we go.”
Wales head coach Byron Hayward was fulsome in his praise for the Italians at the end and can’t wait to spend more time with his players to try to further their development.
“Italy were very good and they beat us in every department. We have no complaints, it is just very disappointing,” said Hayward.
“They are young men learning hard lessons and at this level you get punished for indiscipline. A summer tour will be vitally important for their progression.”
