Wales lock Gwen Crabb believes playing with and against the English players on a regular basis has provided a source of confidence ahead of a huge English Test on Saturday (Kingsholm, 4.45pm, BBC 2 Wales).

Crabb is one of ten Gloucester-Hartpury players in the Wales 23 on Saturday. “Kingsholm is a great ground, it will be nice to have an away match that will be like a home fixture for many of us. Hopefully we will have some Welsh noise there too.

“Playing with and against a lot of the English girls fills us with confidence, as many of us are competing and even shining in the Allianz Premier 15s. We know the processes these players go through.

“In previous years we’ve put them on a pedestal and seen them as better players than us. Now we just see them as players who are at the same level in the game as us.”

Both teams will head into the game at Kingsholm on Saturday with two bonus point wins from two in the TikTok Women’s Six Nations.

“Wales England is the best fixture of the Six Nations, and it doesn’t take much to get up for it, said Crabb.

“The last two weeks have been brilliant but we know this will be another level up. England are best team in the world and that excites us even more. We want to embrace the challenge and show we can compete against the best. The professional programme has helped us in many ways such as our fitness and skill levels, but we can’t be complacent. We have a lot to work on to compete for 80 minutes on Saturday.”

Crabb hopes some of the spirit produced by the record crowd at the Arms Park last weekend for the 24-19 win over the Scots can be replicated across the bridge.

“We were pretty overwhelmed by the crowd last weekend in Cardiff. I think a lot of the girls have used the term being on ‘cloud nine’,” she added.

“Firstly, getting two bonus point wins in a row has been fantastic, and then having so many home fans supporting last weekend was great.

“The amount of people I spoke to after the games, had pictures with, signed autographs for and stuff like that was overwhelming, although in the best way possible. It was pretty inspirational and inspiring to see so many young girls there against Scotland. Hopefully we can continue to inspire younger girls with our journey.”
