He receives an MBE for his services to sport and charity in Wales and is joined in the list by other prominent Welsh sportsmen in Gareth Bale and Hugh Morris. The 70-year-old won three caps for Wales at rugby union, played in three Tests on the 1977 British & Irish Loins tour and also played for the Wales rugby league side.
His playing career saw him start life at Cardiff College of Education after winning Welsh schoolboy honours before going on to play for Cardiff, Newport and Swansea. “I am a bit blown away by it all. I knew absolutely nothing about it and I’m thrilled, privileged and very surprised,” admitted Williams.
“I am almost embarrassed talking about it. I’m just a normal bloke and I would never have thought my credentials were ever strong enough for this type of recognition. I have just done what I can when I can. I like to think I represent the hundreds of people that do unseen work for charity with this award.”
The group Sales and Marketing Director with Thomas Carroll Group, the Cardigan-born Williams has been involved with numerous charities over the years, notably the Welsh Rugby Charitable Trust, Velindre Hospital, Prostate Cymru, Ty Hafan and Fields in Trust Wales.
