The 32-year-old made nine appearances for the Welsh region last season after returning to Wales from Exeter Chiefs ahead of the 2021-22 campaign. He received an immediate recall to the Welsh squad after a four year absence and earned his 50th cap in this year’s Six Nations tournament.
“Our aim when we brought Alex to the Ospreys was to get him consistently on the pitch and influencing games, which he duly achieved. His performances warranted an international recall and helped us achieve Champions Cup qualification,” said Ospreys head coach Toby Booth.
“The exciting thing is that there is more improvement to come from him and he will be instrumental for us next season.”
He marked his return to the international arena with his 17th Welsh try in the 38-23 win over Fiji at Principality Stadium in the Autumn Nations Tests last year. He then went on to start in three of the 2022 Six Nations matches, making a major impact in the game against England at Twickenham.
A Grand Slam winner in 2012, and a Six Nations title winner a year later, he also became a British & Irish Lions Test player in Australia in 2013, scoring a try in the first Test in Brisbane.
The 6ft 6ins tall and 16st 10lbs wing will be among a host of top-quality players vying for wing spots against the world champion Springboks in the three match series in South Africa next month. Louis Rees-Zammit, Josh Adams, Liam Williams and George North can all play on the wing, giving Wayne Pivac a variety of options.
