Then the Pencoed RFC product will head down the M4 to join up with the Wales Squad for the first time to prepare to meet his Tigers back row colleague Jasper Wiese in the three-match Test series against the world champion Springboks next month.
Wiese has been named in the 43-man South African squad for the series and Reffell, who was shortlisted for the Premiership Discovery of the Year award, will be hoping to add a Wales senior cap to his collection of U18 and U20 caps.
Leicester beat Dan Biggar’s Northampton Saints side in the semi-finals and will face Saracens in the final. The ‘Men in Black’ will have two Welshmen in their starting XV in scrum half Aled Davies and centre Nick Tompkins.
They both scored tries in the 34-17 demolition of reigning champions Harlequins last weekend and South-African bound Tompkins will be hoping to pick up his second winners’ medal having triumphed alongside Liam Williams in 2019.
This time last year both Davies and Tompkins steered Sarries back into the top-flight by helping them to beat Ealing Trailfinders in a two-legged Championship final following their relegation to the second-tier for breaking salary cap regulations.
Tompkins spent most of the season on loan at the Dragons, but was then allowed to return to his parent club to complete the campaign.
“There was no doubt in my mind that I would come back to Saracens. It was horrible being on the outside and looking in,” said Tompkins.
“This is my childhood club and while I enjoyed my time at the Dragons, I wanted to contribute to the Championship season. I was really grateful that the Dragons allowed me to go back early and help out.
“Leicester are well organised and know what they are doing. It is impressive what they have done this season.”
The Premiership champions have been determined by an end of season final since 2003 and former Wales backs coach Rob Howley was a winner with Wasps in the first two seasons. Another Welsh scrum half cap, Warren Fury, was also a winner with Wasps in 2005.
Mark Taylor helped Sale Sharks lift the title in 2006, while recently retired Wales and Cardiff prop Rhys Gill triumphed with Saracens in 2011. George North was in the Northampton side that beat Saracens 24-20 in the 2014 final,
Phil Dolman joined Tomas Francis in the Exeter Chiefs side that won in 2017 and Francis picked up a second winners’ medal in 2020.
Williams and Nick Tompkins, teamed-up in the Saracens side that won in 2019, while former Wales hooker Scott Baldwin was a starter in the Harlequins pack last year in their 40-38 win over the Chiefs.
