Shenton, 22, has been training full-time with the Scarlets all summer after impressing the coaching team with staff with his performances in the BUCS league. A dynamic carrier, back-rower Shenton was nominated as one of the players of the season in the BUCS competition.
The West Walians have also brought in second-row Griff Evans who has signed a dual contract which will see him play for both the Scarlets and Llandovery. Evans, 21, was a standout player for both Cardiff University and Llandovery RFC last season and featured for the Scarlets Development XV against the Ospreys and Dragons.
“Iwan is a player who stood out in BUCs and has really impressed us in training with the senior group,” said Scarlets recruitment and operations officer James Davies. “He is a player with a lot of potential and we are looking forward to seeing how he develops within the squad over the course of the coming season.
“Griff played a couple of games with our Development side last season and impressed us. He has shown a great attitude training alongside the senior players in the squad this summer.
“He is an athletic forward with a good skillset and has been a consistent performer for Llandovery in the Premiership. We are looking forward to seeing how he progresses.” Both players will be looking to make a mark at Parc y Scarlets in the hope of progressing their professional careers.
“This is a massive opportunity for me here at the Scarlets,” said Shenton. “I’ve enjoyed getting stuck into pre-season and it’s been brilliant being able to develop my game and learn from the coaches and the players in the squad.
“I’m looking forward to the season kicking off this weekend.”
“I’m delighted to be part of the squad and to have signed with the Scarlets this season,” said Evans. “I’d like to credit and thank Narberth RFC, Llandovery College, Cardiff University RFC and Llandovery RFC.
“I’m very grateful for this opportunity and I’m looking forward to developing my game and learning from coaches and team-mates this year.”
