Hook, who won 81 caps for Wales in an illustrious international career, is hoping Pivac’s men can build on their promising summer tour of South Africa. The All Blacks have had their struggles this season but have recently clicked back into top gear to win the Rugby Championship.
And Hook insists its vitally important Wales prove their test win in South Africa was no flash in the pan by putting in a good performance against New Zealand. “I think Wales took a massive step forward in South Africa this summer,” said the former Ospreys, Perpignan, and Gloucester star.
“Everyone ruled them out as no hopers after they lost to Italy but they showed a lot of character to get a test win over there. But it will be really interesting to see if they can back it up this autumn.
“Wales’ opening test against the All Blacks is not one to be missed that’s for sure.”
There will be some mouthwatering head-to-heads next month with the likes of Louis Rees-Zammit, Josh Adams, Dan Biggar, and Taulupe Faletau likely to face world superstars such as Will Jordan, Beauden Barrett, Richie Mo’unga, and Ardie Savea.
And Hook is extremely excited to see how Wales measure up against one of the world’s best sides. “New Zealand will be a huge challenge of that there is no doubt,” said the former utility back.
“Yes they’ve had their challenges of late but they have hit form again. I can’t wait to see the likes of Will Jordan and Beauden Barrett playing in Cardiff.
“I think Wales need to bring the same level of intensity and physicality they showed against the Boks. But they also need to show their attacking prowess if they want to beat NZ.
“I think it will be a cracking game.” As part of his testimonial season Hook will be a Beaujolais Day at the Towers Hotel in Swansea on Thursday, November 17 from 12pm.
There will be live entertainment, a drinks reception, and three course mean while there will also be a Q&A with Wales legends Hook, Shane Williams, and Paul James.
