Faletau is in line to win his 100th Test cap (he has 94 for Wales and five for the British & Irish Lions), in the final game of the 2022 Autumn Nations Series
A second half replacement for debutant Josh Macleod in the 13-12 defeat to Georgia, the vastly experienced Cardiff Rugby No 8 explained how the players felt in the dressing room post-match on Saturday.
“It wasn’t an easy place to be. All heads were down, it was pretty quiet, and we were just trying to piece together what didn’t go quite right,” admitted Faletau.
“We’ve got to stick together as a group – management and players. We’ve shown we can bounce back from low points like this, so we’ll look to do the same next week.
“We were all really disappointed. Errors kept them in the game, and we couldn’t keep any continuous pressure on them – our errors let them off the hook,” said Faletau.
“They were tough and they won the game, so credit to them for that. They put us under a lot of pressure around the park.
“They’re big physical men and they showed that. We’ll just look have to look back at the game and see where we can be better next time we play them.”
His back row colleague Jac Morgan scored twice in the game as Wales went into a 12-3 interval lead. At that stage he felt Wales were in control.
“At 12-3 at half-time we were in control, but we came out second-half and our discipline let us down and that let Georgia come into our half and put pressure on us,” said Morgan.
“There were a couple of things that didn’t go our way, but there were other opportunities we should have taken. We’ll look at that and try to put things right.
“It’s really gutting and everyone’s disappointed. We’ll have a look at the game, find out where we can improve, work hard in the week and look forward to playing next week against Australia.”
