The Wales and British & Irish Lions wing left the field last Sunday after a heavy collision. Ospreys head coach Toby Booth has now confirmed North will be out of action for three weeks.
It means he is set to miss out on this weekend’s Heineken Champions Cup clash with the Top 14 champions, Montpellier, as well as the Welsh regional derby matches against the Scarlets on Boxing Day and the New Year’s Day trip to the Arms Park to face Cardiff Rugby.
“George has had an operation on Wednesday, and it went really well. In a couple of weeks, hopefully, he will be back at it and that is great,” said Booth.
“The derbies might be too soon, but he will certainly be OK in the New Year. He should be OK within a two or three week period.
“Any injury, especially facial injuries, are always a worry, but George is all good. He was very sore post-game and he has a nice shiny black eye. Outside of that he is quite buoyant and that probably speaks volumes of how he feels about it.”
One of the form players in Wales, North played in all four of Wales’ Autumn internationals and will be looking to add to his 109 Welsh caps when the Six Nations kicks-off with an opening round fixture against world ranked NO 1 side Ireland at Principality Stadium on 4 February.
