Breakspear has been selected to referee England v Italy at Kingsholm Stadium in round two of the Six Nations competition to become one of seven new faces on the panel for the campaign.
It won’t be Breakspear’s only involvement in the competition as he will be running the line in the opening round for the England v Scotland as well as round three and four for the Italy v Ireland and Scotland v Ireland games.
Recently Breakspear has been enhancing his reputation on the World Series 7’s circuit and has also been impressing domestically where he has refereed the Indigo Premiership.
“The selection for the Six Nations game is particularly pleasing because this season we have been carefully planning his refereeing schedule, to give him opportunities in both the 7’s and 15’s tournament,” said WRU National Referee Performance Manager, Paul Adams.
“Ben has a big future in the 15-a-side game and hopefully this is the beginning of further appointments.”
Sean Brickell and Ben Whitehouse will also feature as TMO’s during the championship.
