The Dragons got the perfect start when scoring in the third minute. A driving maul set up the home side and the ball was swiftly moved to Dan Wall who was hanging out on the touchline and he had the simple matter of diving over in the corner.
The scores were level 10 minutes later when winger Matthew Williams went over out wide after a sweeping Scarlets attack.
Four minutes later a cross field kick put the Scarlets defence at sixes and sevens. The Dragons drove forward and full back Harri Ford skipped through the fractured defence to score by the posts for a converted try. But the Scarlets refused to buckle and the visitors earned themselves a penalty try to level the score at 12-12 at the break.
The Dragons were quick off the mark again in the second half when Ryan Jones drove over to put his side 19-12 ahead. Ioan Duggan put daylight between the two teams when he intercepted on the halfway line and sprinted untouched to the try line.
In a game which ebbed and flowed the Scarlets hit back through Wil Thomas before Jack Woods sealed victory with a well struck penalty.
