Peyper was the referee who took charge of Wales’ 2019 quarter final win over France in Japan four years ago, when he sent off French second row Sébastien Vahaamahina for illegal use of an elbow.
He refereed the opening game of this year’s tournament at Stade de France between host nation France and New Zealand. He will have England’s Karl Dickson and Italy’s Andrea Piardi supporting him off the touchlines, while fellow South African Marius Jonker will be the TMO.
Welsh official Ben Whitehouse will be the TMO in the third quarter final between England and Fiji in Marseille on Sunday.
