It means the Dragons ace will have to sit-out this weekend’s Welsh regional derby against the Ospreys in Newport. He will also miss his side’s trip to South Africa to face the Sharks and Lions.
Italian referee Gianluca Gnecchi dismissed the Dragons star in the 66th minute after reviewing a collision between him and Leinster outside half Ross Bryne. The player accepted that he had committed an act of foul play which warranted a Red Card.
The Judicial Officer overseeing the case, Scotland’s Roddy MacLeod, found the incident met the Red Card threshold, with entry of mid-range warranting six weeks. The Player received two weeks mitigation due to his remorse, apology and engagement in the disciplinary process – which results in a four game suspension.
As well as this weekend’s derby match, and he trip to South Africa, Basham will also miss the first game the Dragons play in the EPCR Challenge Cup at home against Oyonnax on 9 December.
