Vodafone, Principal Partner of the Welsh Rugby Union front of shirt sponsor of the Wales Women’s and men’s national and pathway teams at U20s and U18s level, has now committed to the WRU’s new teams in the cross-border tournament, including teams from Wales, Ireland and Scotland.
Vodafone will be front of shirt sponsor on Brython Thunder’s red and black kit and on Gwalia Lightning’s blue and yellow kit.
The partnership with Brython Thunder and Gwalia Lightning builds on Vodafone’s first year with Wales Women’s team as Founding Principal Partner of Women’s and Girls’ rugby which saw a recording breaking crowd of 8,862 for Wales Women’s clash against England at Cardiff Arms Park during the Six Nations championship earlier this year.
This extension further unites all teams within one partnership, continuing Vodafone’s commitment to help grown rugby at all levels in Wales.
Max Taylor, Chief Commercial Officer at Vodafone UK said: “We’re proud to further expand our partnership with the Welsh Rugby Union and strengthen our support of women’s rugby to include Brython Thunder and Gwalia Lightning as they represent Wales at the upcoming Celtic Challenge tournament. As the Founding Principal Partner of Women’s and Girl’s Rugby in Wales, we have ambitious plans to continue to develop the women’s game, from grassroots to national level, and we remain committed to bringing these to life with the WRU.”
Interim WRU CEO, Nigel Walker said: “Vodafone’s commitment and investment in Women’s rugby in Wales has been outstanding. As a principal partner, Vodafone’s support for our two new teams – Brython Thunder and Gwalia Lightning – will allow us to continue the investment and development of the game in Wales. Ours and Vodafone’s commitment to women’s rugby is unwavering and we are both excited to see both teams showcase the undoubted talent in Wales.
Vodafone’s investment into the Women’s game in Wales has already included the ground-breaking use of technology in its PLAYER.Connect platform.
The state-of-the art technology has seen major developments in the past year with the addition of menstrual cycle tracking technology which helps the Wales Women’s rugby team analyse how the menstrual cycle impacts performance, wellbeing, and recovery, showcasing the brand’s commitment to growing women’s rugby.
