The 21-year-old full back is enjoying a breakthrough season in regional rugby. He signed his first senior contract in the summer and has now agreed a long-term extension.
Having made a try scoring debut for during the European Champions Cup clash against Harlequins in 2021, he has gone on to establish himself as the region’s top No 15 this winter. Cardiff head coach Matt Sherratt was delighted to secure the services of the pathway product from Treorchy and has been hugely impressed with his progress this season.
“This signals our intent of not only retaining our best young players but also extending the lads that we want to build the club around,” said Sherratt.
“Cam has been excellent so far this season. He is a really good person and professional which has shown in the consistency of his performances.”
As well as making four first-team appearances last season, he also featured in the Wales U20 side. He has featured in all 11 fixtures this season, including 10 starts, scoring two tries.
“This is a really proud moment for myself and my family and I’m so grateful to everyone who has helped me get to this point in my career,” said a delighted Winnett.
“To sign a long-term contract with a club I love and grew up supporting is amazing and I couldn’t be any happier. This season has been going well for me so far.
“I’m really grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given by the coaches, and I’m loving the way we are playing. It’s just a really enjoyable group to be part of.
“I am still learning every day, I’m working hard on and off the field and enjoying every moment wearing the Cardiff badge on my chest.”
