The honours are bestowed upon individuals who have contributed greatly to Wales, the Welsh Language and to their communities and are allocated in three different categories:
- The Green Robe for contributions to the Arts;
- The Blue Robe is for those who have made a significant impact in the fields of Law, Science, Journalism, Media, Sport or for those who have contributed positively to Community and Country.
- The White Robe – which is reserved for the winners of the National Eisteddfod’s main competition only.
49 new members will be inducted at Ynysangharad Park during the first week of August and Elinor Snowsill – who won 76 caps for Wales before hanging up her boots at the end of the 2023 Six Nations Championship – has two reasons to celebrate, as her mother – food expert Nerys Howell – will also be inducted.
Elinor Snowsill said: “It’s a very special feeling – especially as my mother will be inducted into the Gorsedd with me. For that to happen with her by my side will be truly memorable as she has always been so supportive of me throughout my whole career.
“She has travelled all over the world to watch our games. Canada, Australia – everywhere!
“She was always in the crowd and has been very supportive of me during the tough times as well as the successes we enjoyed.”
