Centre Jenna De Vera and backrower Jess Rogers are named as co-captains, with Wales full-back Nel Metcalfe selected at full-back.

Metcalfe, who has won three Wales caps for the senior side, joined up with squad after the Wales’ WXV play off win against Spain in Cardiff, last Saturday.

The squad includes prop Maisie Davies, lock Alaw Pyrs, fly-half Hanna Marshall, scrum-half Seren Singleton and prop Cadi-Lois Davies who all trained with the extended senior Six Nations squad for the 2024 championship.

The Wales WU20s squad includes 21 players who were in the Brython Thunder and Gwalia Lightning squads which played in last season’s Celtic Challenge tournament.

Liza Burgess, Wales WU20s Head coach, said: “We are proud to name the first squad of players to open our campaign in the Six Nations Summer Series in Parma. We know France will prove to be an exciting challenge for us and we are all looking forward to it. The teams are all at very different stages in their development and this competition is a great way to measure where we are.

“This tournament is all about us and what we do, and we will know where we stand after this opening game. We know how we will measure our performance and it is all about how we adapt and learn to what will be a new and exciting experience for the players and staff.”

Wales WU20s squad to face France:

Nel Metcalfe, Eleanor Hing, Kelsie Webster, Jenna De Vera (co-captain), Amy Williams, Freya Bell, Seren Singleton; Cana Williams, Abi Meyrick, Cadi-Lois Davies, Erin Jones, Alaw Pyrs, Lily Terry, Lucy Issac, Jess Rogers (co-captain)

Replacements: Molly Wakely, Maisie Davies, Lowri Williams, Robyn Davies, Catrin Stewart, Katie Bevans, Hanna Marshall, Savannah Picton-Powell.
