Today marks National Sporting Heritage Day. Over the years, The Welsh Rugby Union has meticulously archived thousands of pieces of memorabilia including jerseys, programmes, trophies and more. We’re delighted to unveil that for the first time in our history, members of the public can now access a digital library highlighting these extensive range of pieces.
Speaking about the project; WRU Heritage Manager Peter Owens said:
“We’re so pleased that we are finally able to showcase the WRU’s collection in a digital format through Google’s incredible Arts and Culture archive. Welsh rugby has a rich and storied history, and this collection captures moments that have shaped not only our national game but rugby as a global sport.”
“From iconic match jerseys to historical programmes and trophies, these pieces tell the story of the game’s evolution. They’re objects that resonate deeply with Welsh fans and now, for the first time, rugby enthusiasts from all corners of the world can explore and appreciate these cherished pieces. It’s incredibly rewarding to know that this treasured history, once confined to our archives, is now open to everyone.”
