The Springbok legend turned up to visit the Wales WXV2 squad ahead of their 19-10 victory over Japan in Cape Town on Friday.
Wales prop Sisila Tuipulotu had sent Kolisi an invitation on social media and South Africa’s World Cup star dropped in to say a few words before the game.
Jones’ side recorded a first historic win in the tournament with wing Nel Metcalfe, scrum half Keira Bevan and Player of the Match Jasmine Joyce, all crossing for tries.
The Wales skipper explained how one of the greats of the world game turned up ahead of kick-off for the vital Test match in South Africa.
“Sisi sent him a message on Instagram, he was travelling to some coaching and unfortunately couldn’t make it to the game, but he made the effort to come and see us in our team room and he spoke very highly of us and the women’s game,” said Jones.
“He talked a bit about his background, how he grew up and to always be humble, always enjoy what you’re doing and work hard, which was definitely something for us to take away. He is such an inspiration and it’s great to meet him and have those words just before the game.”
Kolisi, who has been a big supporter of the women’s game and of the tournament out in South Africa, had delivered an inspirational message that can been seen on all WRU social media channels.
“You guys are the generation that are probably going to change things for women’s rugby,” said Kolisi. “Just believe in yourself and know that you are good enough. You are enough to be in this space.
“You know you’ve worked to be here, you don’t have to feel shy about it, own the space”.
Wales head coach Ioan Cunningham underlined paid tribute to how his players had got the job done against Japan and the impact of his visit.
“Siya had got an aura about hi, hasn’t he?” he said Cunningham, “He commands the room and he spoke extremely well and spoke about the players being worthy and I thought was excellent from him.”
Captain Jones paid tribute to the Wales WXV squad after the Japan victory.
“It is brilliant to get the win,” said Jones.
“The girls have worked extremely hard for this and we’re glad we ended on a high.
“We had more composure in the red zone this week which we worked hard on, and that was outstanding. We are working hard each week.”
Head coach Cunnigham echoed the words of his captain.
“We’re delighted to get the win. Japan are a great side who are well coached but I’m full of pride for our players at how they have stuck in there.
“I thought defensively we were great and we dug in to get the win.”
