McBryde and Meek take advantage of Lloyd’s absence

Sharp shooters Billy McBryde and Kieran Meek took full advantage of Evan Lloyd’s absence from round 12 of Super Rygbi Cymru to leap frog the Ebbw Vale fly half as the leading points scorers in the league.

McBryd jumped from third position to top of the pile after guiding RGC to a hard fought 28-34 win against Bridgend at the Dunraven Brewery Field. He now leads the way with 107 points for the league season but has Lloyd and Meek breathing down his neck.

Lloyd has 105 points while Meek became the third played of the season to reach a century of points while guiding his side to a win against Gwent rivals Ebbw Vale. The Pooler fly half as 104 points next to his name as the battle intensifies going into the festive period.

It’s a case of ‘as you were’ in the try scoring stakes with Cardiff winger Dewi Cross leading the way with nine tries, just one ahead of Carmarthen Quins hooker Lewis Morgan and Ebbw Vale’s Joe Franchi although a new name in Aberavon youngster Cori Lewis-Jenkins makes a first appearance on the charts with seven tries so far.

RGC are quietly going about their business and currently sit in sixth place on the points table. A number of their players are showing up well in the various rankings with talisman Arfon Bagshaw leading from the front. The former Wales Sevens player has had more ‘post tackle’ involvements than any other player with 21, with Pontypool hooker Sam Scarfe next cab of the rank withh 19, with RGC’s Sam Williams in third palce with 18 involvements.

Bagshaw and Williams appear elsewhere on the hitlist as does Ethan Frackrell, so don’t be surprised if RGC start the New Year with a bang as they attempt to work their way up the points table.
