Local schools and colleges packed out the stadium at the Wern and although it was a crisp afternoon, they were treated to some clinical finishing by the home side.
Wales scored two tries in the first half with an intercept from Steffan Emanuel and full back Scott Delnevo finishing off in the corner. Both tries were converted by Harri Wilde to give the home side a 14-0 lead at the break.
With both teams utilising large benches, Wales and Scotland made numerous changes in the second half to give every player an opportunity to put their hand up for respective Six Nations squad selection.
Winger Harry Rees-Weldon, who threatened throughout with his strong running, scored Wales’ third try in the 50th minute before impressive back row replacement Ryan Jones scampered clear to record Wales’ fourth try.
Scotland kept plugging away and after a brief period of sustained pressure, Zander Mactaggart scrambled over with full back Ross Wolfenden adding the extras.
Wales completed the job with Evan Wood ploughing over in the last move of the match.
Wales head coach Richard Whiffin was satisfied with the day’s effort.
“I was really pleased as I thought we showed some outstanding moments in work rate which is what we challenged the group on,” he said.
“Our kick-chase execution put pressure on the Scottish and we showed some real hunger to keep them out on our own goal line a number of times so all in all really pleased with the effort from the boys.
“They’ve come together in three training sessions and put in a good performance.
“I thought the first 20 we played the game really well, the tempo and intent from both teams was really high. We had most of the ball but to be fair to Scotland they were holding out but I felt when we got into the 22 and had a few more chances we would eventually get over the line,
“Si I was pleased to go in ahead at half-time ahead and in the second spell we were able to move away and scored some good tries in the process.”
