The Welsh side hit the road to the Scottish capital determined to build on their remarkable comeback win against Glasgow Warriors in Round 4.
The Lightning scored a try with the last move of the game to secure a 31-26 victory over the Scots on Welsh soil.
Gwalia sit third in the table with three wins out of their four games so far during this league campaign and face an Edinburgh side a place below them.
Welsh international Bryonie King captains the side from Number 8 and leads a side with Wales centre Kerin Lake set to make her Gwalia Lightning debut in the Celtic Challenge.
The experienced centre partners Molly Anderson-Thomas in midfield, with Carys Hughes at fly-half and Welsh international Meg Davies drafted in from her club at scrum-half.
Gwalia make five changes to the starting line-up that beat Glasgow in Ystrad Mynach.
Wales hooker Molly Reardon was not available for selection due to a knee strain.
Catrina Nicholas-McLaughlin, Gwalia Lightning Head coach, said: “We are ready to go again after the bye week and have refocussed and freshened up and looked at the detail of our game and what we want to achieve as a squad.
“We know Edinburgh will prove a major challenge on their home turf, but we can take real confidence from the second half performance against Glasgow. When we perform for the full 80 minutes, we are a side that can score tries and are a match for any side in the league.
“We are delighted Kerin Lake will make her Gwalia debut in the Celtic Challenge and her experience and calming influence around the squad is what you would expect from such an experienced Welsh international.”
