Llandovery College centre Gryff Watkins took his tournament tally to four as he once again got on the scoresheet while there were also tries for Sion Jones and Tom Williams in the back three, scrum half Cellan Allcock, hooker Jake Bowen, flanker Dom Kossuth and replacements Nathan Davies and Ollie Lewis.
The Dragons had hoped to build on their win over RGC in Round 2 and now have two defeats from their three outings. They only have the derby clash with Cardiff to come in their league campaign.
They scored twice through centre Ethan Paterson and replacement wing Rhys Cole. Will Ford converted both tries.
“It was a dominant performance once again from the Scarlets. The Dragons will be disappointed they couldn’t apply much pressure, although the conditions were very tough,” said Wales U18 head coach Richie Pugh.
“Given those tough conditions the Scarlets did a good job. They are working hard to produce plenty of tries and Carwyn Leggatt-Jones is running the show for them at outside half.
“We are looking for him to step up this season having played for Wales U18 last year and he is doing a lot of good things. Scarlets face a long journey up north this weekend, especially as they are going up on the day, because RGC are proving a tough nut to crack.”
RGC’s game against the Ospreys was moved to St Helen’s because of the wet conditions and they will feel unlucky to have lost a real arm-wrestle 17-14. Home outside half Logan Jones converted tries from flanker Tom Edwards and wing Noah Mason and also kicked a penalty.
The Gogs came up with tries from tight head prop Oliver Roe and scrum half Brychan Gwilym, both of which were improved by the boot of outside half George Owen.
“The conditions were really horrible and credit to the Ospreys for getting the game on at St Helen’s. It wasn’t a pretty game, but there was a good battle between the two centres, Jack Hoskins and Osian Llewelyn,” added Pugh.
“It could have gone either way, but the Ospreys just about did enough to win it. Now they have to travel to face Cardiff in the next round.
“Cardiff will have pushed the re-set button after losing to the Scarlets in the first round and have had a couple of weeks to get ready for the Ospreys. It has all the makings of a good contest.
“We’ve been impressed by what we’ve seen so far and there are lots of individuals putting up their hands. We’re casting our eye over all the squads as we look to build our squad for the U18 internatoinals.”
