But far from feeling down on their luck, Boshoff claims he and his teammates will got into Friday night’s clash with an Italian side who beat Scotland 22-10 in their opening game in Edinburgh.
“We left a lot of points out there in the first half against France and we were unlucky not to go in at half time leading. We showed what we are about,” said Boshoff.
“The backs have taken up the onus this week in terms of finding ways that we could have picked up more points. There weren’t a whole lot of mistakes we made in the second half when you take a look at it, but that French team were very clinical and they capitalised on everything.
“There is still an awful lot of belief in this squad that we can do something special, and we will be taking that feeling into the Italy game.”
Wales haven’t won away from home in the U20 Six Nations since Sam Costelow and Jac Morgan steered their side to a 23-22 win over England at Kingsholm on Friday 6 March 2020, so a victory on the road is long overdue.
This year’s captain Harry Beddall skippered the side to a 27-15 win over the Italians at Cardiff Arms Park last year in a game in which Italy scored all their points in the first half and Wales hit back with 27 unanswered points, including four tries, in the second 40 minutes.
“There were some miscues in communication and execution in France. There were 11 players earning first caps and it comes down to the final little bits of detail at times,” said Boshoff.
“We’ll be better for having played together. We know the Italians play with a lot of passion, attack from deep and like to play with width – we know what they will be coming with.
