A young and new-look Brython side were without a host of players against a Clovers side that was third in the table before this clash at the home of Ulster Rugby.

The Welsh side made ten changes to the side to travel to Belfast due to injuries and player unavailability to play a Clovers side full of Irish internationals.

Thunder have now played three successive games against the two Irish sides – Clovers and Wolfhounds – who both dominated last season’s competition.

Captain Natalia John led from the front and was one of three Welsh internationals in the side, alongside centre Hannah Bluck and Wales threequarter Niamh Terry in the Brython Thunder starting line-up.

Scrum half Seren Singleton, once again, showed her trademark abrasive and fighting spirit for the visitors, Clover were simply the better side.

The home side opened the scoring when lock Jayne Clohessy crossed for the try from a straightforward pick and go. Centre Anna McGann then crossed for Clovers second try after a length of the field break by wing Chisom Ugwueru.

Lock Clohessy then crossed for her second try after a defence-splitting break by the second row to stretch the home side’s lead. Fly half Fowley added the extras to make it 19-0 midway through the first half.

Clovers got the bonus point when prop Sophie Barrett scored the fourth try before Clohessy crossed for her third try and then wing Amme Leigh Costigan to make it 34-0 at half-time.

After the break, wing Ugwueru, prop Barrett and centre McGann, wing Costigan all crossed for their second tries to seal a one-sided win for the home side.
