The Black & Ambers were leading 3-0 at the time and since then Ty Morris’ men have picked up three wins on the road to remain well inside the top half of the 10-team table.
After back-to-back home defeats in the league the Wizards will also be hoping to climb the table.
They currently sit in eighth place but have two games in hand on most team around them.
Long-serving coach Jason Hyatt is happy with the progress made by his young side this far in SRC and four of their seven defeats came by one score or less.
“There has been a complete change in the competition and the age profile of most team has become much younger. I’ve been delighted with the attitude of the youngsters in our squad,” said Hyatt.
“I remember when I was playing at Llanelli it was head coach Gareth Jenkins who said it takes three years to grow a new team. This Aberavon team needs time to develop but they have already made great strides.
“We are proud to have stuck to the £150,000 playing budget this season and will do so again next winter as well. We have bought into the new competition wholeheartedly both on and off the field.
“Our relationship with the Ospreys has grown and we’ve been delighted to have teenage outside half Owen Erasmus, prop Dylan James, wing Cori Lewis-Jenkins, centre Connor Moyse and scrum half Scott Whitlock assigned to us from their academy.
“Owen joined the Ospreys from Millfield School and started for us against Bridgend and will be on the bench against Newport. Unfortunately, Dylan and Connor have both picked up injuries and Corey is due back shortly after having an Appendix operation.
“Having so many youngsters around the place has forced us as coaches to change our approach and style and whereas a few seasons ago we used to joke that our top try scorer was ‘Penalty Tries’, now we are scoring from all over the place.
“I just hope we can build on this great start next season by building in a few more games at an even higher standard with some cross-border fixtures.”
Aberavon’s 10-8 defeat at St Helen’s last month provided Swansea with their only win to date in the league this season. They will be hoping to add a second when they host Carmarthen Quins tonight in another re-arranged fixture.
The Quins are only one place above the Whites but are 15 points clear of them. They will be seeking a league double having won the first meeting between the two sides at Carmarthen Park, 39-29.
Cardiff RFC will be seeking revenge on Saturday night when they welcome back RGC to the Arms Park for a 4.30pm kick-off in the final rearranged match. The two sides met in the Welsh capital in the SRC Cup last weekend and the Gogs triumphed 34-31.
A bonus-point win for the Blue & Blacks would take them back to the top of the table ahead of Llandovery.
