IN FOCUS: Super Rygbi Cymru

Ticket information has now been confirmed

As part of the WRU’s commitment to delivering The Way Forward, our long-term plan to build a stronger and more sustainable future for Welsh rugby, we are releasing a series of In Focus papers that explore the key areas of investment shaping the game over the next five years.

This edition turns the spotlight on Super Rygbi Cymru. It explains how targeted investment in people, performance support, and competition operations will strengthen the bridge between the community game and the professional level.

The paper sets out how Super Rygbi Cymru is evolving into a connected, semi-professional tier that offers meaningful minutes for emerging players, development opportunities for returning professionals, and a high-quality environment for committed semi-professional athletes.

It outlines how centrally employed coaches, strength and conditioning staff, and physiotherapists will raise standards across all clubs, creating a consistent approach that aligns with the professional game. It also explores how improved competition operations, a unified playing philosophy, and closer links with the National Academy and Regional Training Centres will help turn potential into performance.

With insights from our Director or Rugby and Elite Performance, Dave Reddin, and John Alder, National Lead for Player Development and Pathways, the paper highlights how collaboration, alignment, and investment are building a competition that reflects the ambition of Welsh rugby while staying rooted in its community identity.
