The Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) is proud to announce it has officially retained the Disability Sport Wales InSport Gold Award, recognising the organisation’s continued commitment to delivering inclusive opportunities across rugby in Wales.
Liam Scott, Head of EDI at WRU
“Being recognised once again with the Disability Sport Wales InSport Gold Award is a huge honour for the WRU. It is a reflection of the commitment to inclusive practice shown by our teams, partners, and communities across Wales. Inclusion sits at the heart of our vision for rugby, as shown through our Crys I Bawb strategy. This award reaffirms the importance of the work we do, ensuring everyone, regardless of background, identity, or ability, has the opportunity to participate in our sport. We are proud of this achievement and remain committed to driving progress in everything we do as an organisation.”
The achievement marks a significant milestone for the WRU. It reflects years of dedicated work to embed inclusive practice, develop accessible pathways and nurture strong partnerships that support participation for all, across every community.
Since initially being awarded gold status in 2021, we have worked hard to strengthen our commitment to accessibility through several initiatives designed to enhance event days for every fan. In 2024, we introduced the Nimbus Access Card at Principality Stadium, becoming one of the first major sporting venues in Wales to adopt the system. By collaborating with Nimbus Disability, we are now able to offer a more inclusive, privacy-focused focused and convenient ticketing experience with customers with access needs able to book tickets online for the first time. This has allowed us to better understand and meet the individual access requirements of our fans, ensuring reasonable adjustments are delivered consistently and efficiently.
Martin Austin, Nimbus Disability Managing Director
“We’ve been thrilled to work with WRU on this pioneering advancement for disabled people booking tickets online at major sports events. As the testimonials all involved attest, it’s been a game-changer for disabled fans and a real time saver for the amazing team at Principality Stadium. All credit to Dan and his team.”
We’ve also introduced Accessible Fan Guides, developed in collaboration with Access Card and created by a disabled-led company Different Breed. Enabling us to provide clear, accessible and tailored information for supporters who may benefit from additional guidance ahead of a match. These guides help fans feel confident, informed, and fully supported when attending the stadium.
These initiatives, along with upcoming plans for 2026, reflect our wider vision to deliver a genuinely inclusive experience both on and off the field.
We’re delighted to be recognised once again by Disability Sport Wales. We’re committed to ensuring Welsh rugby and Principality Stadium is welcoming and inclusive at every level.
