Ospreys secure late bonus point
OSPREYS 26, GLASGOW 9
At the Liberty Stadium
Shane Williams went over three minutes from time to seal a bonus-point victory for the Ospreys over Glasgow at the Liberty Stadium.
The Wales wing picked up Gavin Henson’s long pass off the deck and dived over in the corner on 77 minutes to grab the Ospreys’ fourth and final try of the night.
That ensured maximum points for the Ospreys and their third straight win ahead of the Heineken Cup next week.
Glasgow got off to the brighter start, taking a 6-0 lead through the boot of Colin Gregor inside the opening ten minutes.
But the Ospreys shook themselves from their slumber and Nikki Walker, Sonny Parker and Steve Tandy all went over to open a commanding 21-9 lead at half-time.
James Hook created the game’s opening try following a mistake by Gavin Henson. Hook scorched through, found Tandy in support who sent the Scottish wing Walker storming through against his fellow countrymen on 14 minutes.
Henson converted and created the second after Gregor had regained the lead for Glasgow, standing up the defence before picking his pass for Parker who showed his strength to stretch out and score on his 50th appearance for the region.
Tandy grabbed a third after supporting Marshall’s break like all good openside flankers do. Ex-All Black Marshall went close after Filo Tiatia’s initial burst but Tandy was on hand to pick up and crash over.
But the Ospreys failed to build on their first-half performance and missed a handful of chances as first Williams and the Henson failed to finish scintillating breaks.
Ian Evans was held up over the line late on but replacements Jason Spice and Andrew Bishop combined in midfield to open space for Henson who spotted Williams out wide and the wing did the rest.
