Will you be a saint or sinner this New Year?

Cardiff Christmas shoppers were asked the standard dilemma question, ‘if you found out the end of the world was nigh, what would you do in the time you have left?’, but with a unique twist.

Share this page:

“Imagine yourself at the ‘Heaven and Hell’ themed New Year’s Eve 2006 party to be held at the Stadium,” shoppers were told.

“You’re having lots of fun with all your friends until 10 minutes to midnight when a distressed DJ interrupts the music to announce ‘Armageddon is upon us… we are all doomed!’ What do you do next?”

The survey had some interesting results with over half the 30 people asked, choosing the most ‘sinful’ answer – chatting up the first attractive man or woman they could find – rather than ringing home to talk to mum in a ‘saintly’ manner.

The results also show you can’t judge a book by its cover. Over 80 per cent of interviewees said they would be wearing a Devil outfit to the fancy dress party, but costume choice counted for nothing with The End of the World approaching – Kelly Veryard, 18, from Cardiff was the only one who chose to both look and act Angelic!

Opinion on Welsh celebrities was also canvassed, with all surveyed asked to categorise celebs as ‘saints’ or ‘sinners’ in the context of the dilemma question.

Wales’s very own singing angel Katherine Jenkins tops the list of ‘saints’, unanimously labelled by all the men who took part as most likely to call a loved one.

Charlotte Church takes her place on the opposite side of the fence, picking up just one vote as a ‘saint’. Charlotte was closely followed by Big Brother’s Imogen and Catherine Zeta Jones, with Shirley Bassey splitting opinion.

Women voters judged Ryan Giggs to be the most sinful, he beat of stiff competition from the other Big Brother-ite listed, Glyn, and Rhys Ifans surprised everyone coming out on top as a unanimous ‘saint’, above Anthony Hopkins and the Stereophonics’ Kelly Jones.

Readers can take part in the survey at www.millenniumstadium.com/heavenandhellsurvey and the Millennium Stadium has teamed up with Wales on Sunday to offer one lucky winner, and nine friends, free tickets to the Heaven ‘n’ Hell New Year’s Eve party – just fill in the survey online and your details will be entered into a free prize draw for the tickets.
