The Dragons lost Colin Charvis to the sin-bin in the first half and the home side gradually got on a roll that eventually saw them clinch a bonus point. It was the Welsh region’s third successive defeat in Edinburgh in the league.

Giant lock Chris Bentley grabbed his first try for the Scottish side to launch the bonus point bid and all four tries came from pack members: replacement hooker Andrew Kelly and back row men David Callum and Ally Hogg.

A week after they qualified for the semi-finals of the European Challenge Cup in such impressive style against Brive, Dragons Coach Paul Turner mixed up his team. Yet he was unable to find the right blend to improve his side’s position neat the bottom of the table.

The boot of Ceri Sweeney came in handy in keeping the scoreboard moving as he landed two penalties and also converted an Aled Brew try and one by himself near the end.

Scorers:
Edinburgh: Tries: C Bentley, A Kelly, D Callum, A Hogg. Cons: C Paterson (2). Pens: C Paterson, D Hodge
Dragons: Tries: A Brew, C Sweeney. Cons: C Sweeney (2). Pens: C Sweeney (2)
