Roberts became the 193rd player to be capped from the Llanelli side when he played against Canada in the Invesco Perpetual Series. The 22-year-old then sat on the bench for Wales’ victory over Australia to head back to his region with his confidence boosted.
And Phillips will get back in action this weekend for the Ospreys after a lengthy spell on the sidelines through a knee injury. The presence of the former Blues and Scarlets scrumhalf at the Liberty Stadium was one of the main reasons Roberts left the Ospreys to further his career with the Scarlets last summer.
Roberts is determined not to be a one-cap wonder and is hoping to stake his claim for a scrumhalf berth in Warren Gatlands Welsh Six Nations side.
“The Six Nations is definitely a goal of mine,” said Roberts. “I said when I was picked in the autumn I am still on a learning curve and if I am picked again that will be great. I want to keep on playing well for the Scarlets and if the recognition comes, so be it.
“Obviously Mike is back this weekend, but all I can do is keep playing well and hopefully I can keep my place in the squad.”
Roberts will be in the shop window this weekend when the under performing Scarlets side take on Cardiff Blues who have been storming through Europe in the Heineken Cup.
“It has been a frustrating time for everyone, but we have just got to keep on looking forward and hopefully we can get a couple of wins under our belts and confidence will come with that,” added Roberts.
“The Blues are playing well at the moment — you have to be a good side to go out to a place like Biarritz and win — but we feel that if we can put some small things right in our game we can turn things around.”
