After two legs already held in Dubai and South Africa, Wales find themselves at the wrong end of the table alongside the likes of Uganda, Tunisia, Russia and Canada who are among nine countries yet to register a point.
South Africa currently lead the table on 40 points with perennial favourites New Zealand in second place on 28.
Paul John’s Welsh side face a daunting prospect in Wellington as they face the Kiwis in their opening game at Westpac Stadium in Pool B before taking on Australia and Niue.
John said: “It’s great to welcome back some seasoned Sevens players to the squad such as Aled Thomas, Lee Williams and Lee Beach. While we performed well at times in Dubai and George, experience is vital at this level and we are hoping to use these tournaments to gain some form and confidence ahead of the Rugby World Cup Sevens in March.
“We have a tough pool in Wellington with Australia and New Zealand two of our Day One opponents, and we particularly want to improve on our disappointing displays against Australia in Dubai and George.
