Newport Gwent Dragons are delighted to announce that Wales’ most-capped forward and former British and Irish Lion Colin Charvis will remain with the region as Defence Coach for the 2009/10 season, although the Dragons flanker, who recently underwent knee surgery, is unlikely to be gracing the pitch as a player.

“We are delighted that Colin is staying with the Dragons,” said Head Coach Paul Turner. “He worked very hard both on and off the pitch last season and he will be a great asset to the side as a full-time coach.”

Charvis, who scored a try in the last of his 94 Welsh appearances against South Africa in 2007 will be drawing on his international experience as he works with some of Wales’ brightest young players.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my experience as player-coach at the Dragons last season and I am looking forward to the challenge of a new season at Rodney Parade,” said Charvis “The Dragons have some real rising stars and it’s great to be working with them again this season.”
