Jarrod Evans is in fine form and the young Cardiff Blues fly-half hopes a raucous home crowd can cheer his team to Challenge Cup semi-final glory against Pau.

Danny Wilson’s Blues welcome their French opponents to what will be a packed Cardiff Arms Park on Saturday as they look to reach a European final in Bilbao next month.

Evans was named man of the match as he pulled the strings for their Blues in their last game before the semi-final, a 45-12 Guinness PRO14 thrashing of Southern Kings in South Africa.

“The semi final is going to be a massive occasion and as a team we’ll always back ourselves, especially at home,” said Evans.

“A lot of teams don’t like visiting the Arms Park, it’s got a fast track and hopefully we’ll get a big crowd there.

“The crowd can genuinely be the difference between a win and a loss, so hopefully we’ll get a big turn out and we can go on to secure a place in Bilbao.”

The Blues ran in seven tries as they finished their South African trip in style against the Kings, with Evans contributing 10 points from the tee.

Victory sealed a place for the Blues in next season’s Champions Cup and means confidence is high ahead of facing Pau.

The Arms Park has already sold out its central seating for the game with Pau and limited tickets remain.

Evans said: “It was a really good win for us against the Kings. As we know, Cardiff Blues haven’t been in the Champions Cup for a few years so that’s a great achievement and now we’re looking forward to movin on to the semi final on Saturday.

“We knew that Southern Kings can be a dangerous side and they proved that against Munster last week where they pushed them really close for 60 minutes.

“I thought we started the game with real intent and pretty much set up from there.

“It was really pleasing to see a lot of the things we’ve been working on during the week come off and the forwards were immense.

“But it’s time to rest up and get ourselves ready for a huge game at the Arms Park against Pau.

“I’ve been glad to get the starting spot at outside-half recently, because there’s a real tough competition for it here.

“It’s been nice to have a bit of consistency and from that the confidence will come.”
