Jones will make his tenth appearance against the Azzuri this weekend and knows that securing a second win in this competition for his side will be no easy task.
He explained: “Italy are a difficult outfit. They’re forward orientated with a very good set-piece, but it’s about us being smart and confident. We want to play with width and tempo and move Italy around.
This season has been far for satisfactory for Jones and co. who have recorded just one win from four matches. And that return prompted Jones to say: “As players we have been frustrated with certain aspects of our game. We were below par and didn’t play to our potential against Ireland and that’s hugely disappointing. Now we have work hard to make sure we bounce back.
“It’s a big game against Italy. We know the performance against Ireland was not good enough and the coaches are demanding better. The coaches are disappointed and so are the players.
“Things were said about or attacking game in the autumn but we addressed that and our attack was very good before Dublin. We had made 20 linebreaks in three games but Ireland managed to contain us very well. So that’s something we must look at.
“It was disappointing to be down to 14 men again. In previous years we have managed to deal with that but this season it has cost us dearly.
