Scarlets lose Barclay, but look ahead to final

Scarlets head coach Wayne Pivac has warned Guinness PRO14 final rivals Leinster his team can improve further ahead of their Aviva Stadium showdown.

Pivac watched on as the Scarlets produced a superb team display to down Glasgow 28-13 at Scotstoun in their last four clash.

Tries from Wales internationals Rhys Patchell, Gareth Davies , Rob Evans and Ken Owens did for the Warriors to send Scarlets through to a second straight domestic final.

The men from Llanelli will face Leinster as they bid for PRO14 glory with Pivac in confident mood.

“We are the defending champions so we are really pleased to have reached another final,” he said.

“But it is going to be one heck of a game next Saturday. We have worked really hard all year to get to another final and we want some more silverware.

“We are very pleased with the result, but we are also a little bit disappointed with some of our play.

“At times we got too high on this surface and they put a lot of pressure on us at the breakdown meaning we turned over too much ball.”

Scarlets were beaten comfortably by Leinster at the Aviva at the semi-final stage of this season’s Champions Cup, but are relishing the chance of another crack at Leo Cullen’s men.

Leinster went on to become European champions and will be formidable opposition, but as defending league champions the men from West Wales are not without a chance.

Sadly, Pivac will have to do without experienced back-row forward John Barclay against Leinster.

The Scotland skipper was forced off early in the tie with Glasgow with an Achilles injury and won’t be fit for the final.

It means Barclay has played his last game for the Scarlets ahead of his summer move to Edinburgh.

Pivac added: “There is more to come from us.

“We weren’t too happy with some aspects of our game and we mentioned those at half time. It was important we scored first in the second half and then it was basically about playing the clock down.

“But we are in a good place at the moment and we’re confident.”
