Assistant Wales coach Rob Howley has predicted a flowing game of open rugby when Wales take on Scotland in the RBS 6 Nations at Murrayfield on Saturday.

He said both sides will want to play free flowing rugby with a fierce contest for control over where on the pitch the game is played.

Speaking at the Wales team hotel in Edinburgh he said: “I think it will be an open game because both sides will want to play rugby. It’s important we own where we play because if we can own that area it will give us a great chance.”

He also spoke of the desire in the camp to secure victory after a frustrating period without a win.

He said: “We are not hiding away from the fact it has been frustrating because we have lost games but those games have been very close against the top sides in world rugby.

“When you win international rugby it’s a special changing room to be in and we want that. It’s down to individuals to focus on their responsibilities and there is now a very good feeling in the camp after a good week in training.”

Neil Jenkins spoke of the influence Dan Parks can have on the Scotland performance if he plays well. “If he plays well more often than not Scotland play well so he is a big threat to us.

“Ten is an important position and if James Hook can get the balance in his game right we’ve got a good chance. He is a ball in hand player and it is important to do the right thing at the right time. He is a fantastic rugby player.”

Jenkins pinpointed the importance of the eight, nine and 10 for Wales playing in unison to mount a threat on Scotland.
He explained:”Mike is instrumental in that as is Ryan at eight and it’s important those three have big games for Wales.”
