First launched for the Millennium Magic Rugby League event around Valentines Day, the ‘Cwtch Cam’ is part of a marketing initiative by Visit Wales.

During the match on Saturday, which will celebrate the 130th anniversary of the founding of the Welsh Rugby Union, a promotional video by BBC pundit and rugby legend Jonathan Davies will be played to encourage everyone to enjoy a ‘Cwtch’. The cameras will go around the stadium showing people ‘Cwtching’ on the big screen and then zoom in one ‘Cwtching’ couple. This lucky pair will win a weekend for two in Cardiff.

In addition, there will be 10 ‘Cwtchers’ wearing red T-shirts who will offer a ‘Welsh Cwtch’ to as many Irish fans they can find. Once the deed is done, they will present them with a special ‘I had a Welsh Cwtch’ badge.

Roger Pride, Visit Wales Marketing director, said: “The ‘Magic Cwtch’ for the Millennium Magic Event last month was such a success we were keen to develop the idea for the Six Nations and have worked with the Millennium Stadium on the ‘Welsh Cwtch’ for those fans visiting Wales. It’s a great way to remind people of the warm and friendly welcome that awaits any visitor to Wales and will add to the atmosphere of the city and stadium on match day. We wanted to find a new, more memorable way of saying ’Welcome to Wales’.”

Gerry Toms, the Millennium Stadium General Manager, added: “We pride ourselves on being one of the most friendly venues in the world and were delighted with the response of the rugby league fans to the innovative ‘Magic Cwtch’ campaign used by Visit Wales last month.

“Given that Saturday will be the 130th anniversary of the WRU, it will be great if everyone celebrates the occasion with a ‘Welsh Cwtch’. The Irish fans always travel in great numbers and have a wonderful rapport with their Welsh counterparts and the Millennium Stadium.”
