The day will include skills, game play and fitness testing with players coached by the senior national squad coaches Liza Burgess (Head coach) and assistant coach Rhys Edwards.

Any interested players (who need to be 17 on 1st Sept 2010) must register in the team room at 8.30am with the day’s proceedings finishing 3pm approx.

The focus of this programme will be core skills and conditioning culminating in a fixture against England U20s at Easter. As it is the first year of the next four-year cycle leading into the 2014 Women’s World Cup, a ‘condensed’ U20s programme is being undertaken.

At the conclusion of eight training sessions there is the potential for players to be selected into a ‘core skills group’ which will work through the summer. This will be based on skills, conditioning and attitude it will be selected against a criteria and there is no set number of spaces.

The U20s is a proven breeding ground for future full senior honours with 14 of the the current Six Nations squad having come through the current U20s programme.

The coaching staff are looking for players who have an excellent attitude towards training and are motivated to represent their country at the highest level.

Performance Manager Sophie Bennett said: “This is an exciting time for young players who have ambitions to represent their country. We are looking for highly motivated and committed players who want to push themselves and be the best they can be.

“With it being the start of a four year cycle senior-wise the World Cup in 2014 is a realistic ambition for these girls just as when I sat with some of the current senior squad at U20s and talked about playing in 2010 – Mared Evans, Lisa Newton and Sioned Harries among others have all come through the system.

“The inclusion of VII’s in the Olympics will be exciting for Women’s rugby and opens a whole new set of opportunities for players – not just participating in World Cups but having the chance to win an Olympic medal.”
