Webster will take charge of Wales’ Junior World Championship campaign, assisted by Rob Appleyard for the June tournament (June 10 – 26).
With Darren Edwards having taken up the permanent role as Newport Gwent Dragons head coach, he will continue to help prepare the Wales Under 20 squad for the tournament but will not travel to northern Italy with the Welsh youngsters.
Instead, Webster, former Wales and Lions flanker will take over as head coach for this campaign. The Wales Under 20 coaching set-up will then be reviewed in time for next season.
Webster said, “I can’t wait, I’m really looking forward to this challenge. We are a close-knit group of coaches and players and we will very much be continuing where we left off in terms of continuity of coaching and our approach to the games.
“We produced an exciting brand of rugby during the Six Nations, beating Scotland and Italy, and running England and France very close, our most disappointing performance being the draw against Ireland.
“We have Argentina, New Zealand and Italy in our Junior World Championship Pool, all of whom will be tough opposition but we must build on our Six Nations performances in order to do as well as we possibly can in all our matches, developing as many of our young players along the way as possible”.
