The Development side was established to provide a shop window for selection for those individuals that have played Under 18 regional age grade but unfortunately fall outside of the U18 January 1st international birth date criteria.
Kevin George will act as head coach with additional support from staff of the performance department.
“The Wales U19 development side provides a watching brief for U20 selection,” explained WRU head of rugby Joe Lydon.
“It was recognised that another vehicle was needed to assess these players who may have only had a short window to represent Wales at U18 level and it was decided that the U20 selectors needed to see these players play at a higher level giving a view of the depth that is out there.
“Those that are U18 capped can show themselves as potential U20 players of the future. Our counterparts also see this side as a valuable platform, unearthing additional players for U20 for this year and next, that may have ordinarily slipped through the net.”
