The fledgling Welsh side has been making steady progress under the guidance of Rhys Edwards over the past few weeks where they slowly but surely have been showing progress as they cast one eye on next year’s showpiece event in Moscow.
Most recently they competed in the Bournemouth Sevens last weekend where they reached the semi-final before bowing out to Wooden Spoon.
Going into this weekend’s crucial tournament Wales will be fully aware 12 European teams with established sides and seedings have already qualified for Moscow (namely England, Spain, Netherlands, Russia, France, Portugal, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Moldova, Ukraine and Switzerland.)
There are only four spots available for the final RWC European qualifying tournament in Moscow at the end of the month which means the pressure will be on from the outset this weekend for Wales.
“The girls probably didn’t play to their full potential in the semis last weekend however they are improving week on week and we are looking forward to going to Bulgaria to try and qualify for the World Cup qualifiers,” said a team spokesperson.
“We scored some fantastic tries in Bournemouth, sticking to the job at hand even though some of the opposition was not as tough as in previous weeks.
“It was pleasing to see the game against the Akuma Dragons in the quarter-finals (won 17-12) where all players had lots to prove. Playing against each other showed that the development process is starting to work.”
