The towering lock, who led Ponty to the Principality Premiership title last season, qualifies for Mediterranean island through his grandfather.
And after giving up on his childhood dream of running out for Wales he is embarking on an international career for the land of his grandfather – all thanks to Twitter.
“It all started with a Tweet. I saw someone Tweeting about rugby in Cyprus so I got in contact and they passed on my details to the team,” said Dicomidis.
“I ended up going over last October and made my debut against Luxemburg.”
Dicomidis enjoyed a fairytale start to his international career and scored as Cyprus racked up a 48-7 victory – their twelfth on the bounce.
“My family are massively proud. It’s every kids dream to play for Wales but at 26-years old I realised it wasn’t going to happen. Cyprus came calling and I Thought it would be good to experience a different culture,” added the second-row.
Dico, as he is known at Sardis Road, returned to Cyprus in May, just a week after Pontypridd claimed the league title.
Cyprus maintained their winning run and racked up a 72-5 victory over historic rivals Greece, scoring a try in the process once again.
But after being confirmed as the Welsh club’s captain once again for the new campaign he has no intention of taking his eye off the domestic ball and insists Pontypridd is the priority.
After winning the Premiership crown Dicomidis expects a tougher campaign as ‘the team to beat’.
But Ponty have been bolstered by the return of several favoured sons, including Dai Flanagan and Rhys Shellard.
“We were chuffed to bits with last season and it showed all the hard work we’ve been putting in over the last two years has paid off,” added Dicomidis.
“But everyone will be gunning for us this year and it’s much harder to defend a title. By comparison winning it is the easy bit but securing back-to-back titles is a lot tougher.”
