Aberavon has announced the appointments of Mark Taylor and Craig Warlow as back’s coaches for the new season and they will be a huge help in the clubs push for honours.

Both men are looking forward to the first-pre season fixture, at home to Tata Steel on Saturday (KO 2.30pm) to see how the hard work has been taking shape.

The club thanked departing backs coach, Nicky Lloyd, for his invaluable contribution over the last five seasons and wish him well for the future.

Warlow joins Aberavon from Premiership rivals Bridgend who he joined in 2009. The former Wales A fly half played for both the Dragons and the Scarlets, as well as Kenfig Hill, Llanelli, and Bridgend. He will bring with him experience from all levels of the game which will undoubtedly have a great impact on the Wizards back play.

Taylor is currently the Wales U20s team manager and joins the Wizards as a backs coach working alongside Warlow. It is hoped that both will add a creative edge to the Wizards play along with a vast amount of coaching experience, and both are excited to be linking up with the club and can’t wait for the season to begin.

Head coach Simon King commented: “I am pleased that Mark and Craig have joined the coaching set-up at Aberavon. Mark has worked with the club for the last couple of seasons and his experience will be an invaluable asset to further player development, whilst Craig had a very successful spell with Bridgend and as a local man will also bring enthusiasm and no little skill to the clubs back room staff.”

“Both will work with the backs and have specific roles in terms of team improvement. As Head Coach I am looking forward to working with them and they will also work closely alongside Chris Gittins and Kevin Ellis in what is going to be another exciting season in the Premiership. Both signings are a true indication of our intent to challenge and move the club forward.”

The skipper for the new season will be the powerful young lock forward, Sam Williams, a former Pencoed School product, who has played 48 times thus far for the Wizards.
