Both have been given an opportunity to impress during the recent run of summer friendly games, with the players grabbing the chance with both hands.
18 year old Owen Jenkins is a product of Ynysybwl RFC and represented his local club through to youth level. Impressing as a fleet footed wing or full back with an ability to target the try line, Owen was drafted into the Blues age grade system and was capped by Wales at Under 18 level.
Currently a student at UWIC, Owen was a member of the college team that claimed the universities world championship crown, and has also represented Great Britain Universities Sevens.
The son of former Wales international Garin Jenkins, Owen has a commendable rugby pedigree although comparisons between his rugged hooker of a father and the flying winger of a son are minimal.
Stepping up to fill a void in the club’s second row department, Dafydd Davies is the latest addition to the Pontypridd RFC squad.
Local boy Davies played for the Ponty Mini & Juniors before departing to study at Swansea University where his game developed further.
He then joined up with Cilfynydd RFC in 2010, playing in the back row and second row and contributing fully to the club’s rise through the league system.
Standing at 6ft 5in and weighing in at 16st 7lbs, the 24 year old Davies will be a valuable addition to the Ponty squad as an athletic second row option.
