The likes of Gareth Thomas, Allan Bateman and Arwel Thomas will all turn out for a Welsh legends side though they will not be playing their usual sport.

All three will take part in a star-studded charity football match as the Welsh legends take on an Arsenal legends side at Blosse Street.

The match forms party of a fun day aimed at raising money for the building of a new club house and community venue at the club which it is hoped will encourage youngsters in the area to get involved in rugby.

“We are trying to get as many people as possible to come along as it is a charity fundraiser,” said club chairman Terry Boast.

“We want to get as many kids playing at the club as possible and we’re really looking to push the women’s and girl’s teams too as we sometimes struggle for numbers in those areas.

“We’re looking to build a new club house and we have raised £350,000 so far which is a great effort. This event is just one of a number of charity events we’ve got planned.”

Although the main event is the charity football match, the day will give rugby fans the chance to see some of their Welsh heroes in action in person. There will also be a tag rugby tournament at half-time for local children who come along.

In addition to the Welsh rugby legends on show, the day will also feature a number of celebrity faces on the Arsenal side. Former players Steve Williams and Perry Groves will turn out alongside Ralf Little, famous for his role in comedy drama The Royle Family and gardener Tommy Walsh who will play in goal. 2011 Dancing on Ice winner Sam Attwater will also be in attendance.

“We’ve gone down the route of a community grant rather than a rugby grant as we want to get as many people involved as possible, we pride ourselves on that,” added Boast.

“There’ll be some celebrities down and it should be a great day.”

Between 500 and 1000 people are expected to attend Sunday’s event which takes place at the home of Nantyffyllon from 1pm.

There will also be a Join the Beat table at the event, which will be staffed by the club’s women’s and girl’s teams for those who want more information on the process or would like to hold an event of their own.

The bar will be open and there will be live music after the game for those who would like stay around. There will also be and a pass into the mouth and beat the goalie competition for the children.
